Joy is a weapon.
When you hear the old whispers that tell you that you aren’t safe, that no one is. When fear lurches like a shadow in your peripheral sight. When you don’t know why it has happened. And worry tempts. When darkness feels so relentless. Or tragedy has struck. If you are exhausted with coping. And your heart is weary with all effort.
Get out your joy and start swinging it around. Feel its blade slice through the air. Hear the whistle and the song of its contact with the molecules of this day, the trials of this hour. Test its heft. Listen to its battle cry:
You are loved with a love that cannot fail.
He is good and His mercy endures forever.
This is the day that He has made.
“Rejoice in the Lord always.
And again, I say, rejoice.” Philippians 4:4
Get out your weapon and fight. Stand firm and don’t back down. Remind yourself of His faithfulness. Remember who you are. The power you’ve been given. The new sanity that is yours. Stand and put every ounce of care onto your Father’s shoulders.
Do not play nice with fear. There is a war on. Fight back with joy.
Count it ALL joy.
Watch despair become powerless. Witness the darkness hide. See worries neutralize. Know the force that good holds. The potency of His kindness and mercy. The pleasure He takes in helping you.
You have a deadly weapon.
“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Tim 1:7
