Not only did Jesus come, but He still comes.
Each day He approaches you, with light and way and truth, and knocks on the door of your heart.
Will you let Him in today? Will you sit and take a moment to make the trade?
I took communion recently in a church service, and He spoke to me. I was saying over and over – my personal communion prayer lately – “everything I am for everything you are.” I heard someone speak about communion last year and it rocked my world, caused me to approach it differently. I kept saying this, over and over. “Here. Everything I am for everything you are.” Suddenly He interrupted me.
“No. Everything I AM, for everything you are.”
And whoosh. Just like that, He turned my beggar rags into a princess gown. Like He does.
Everything that He is, endless and wild and beautiful and real, for all of my striving and sighing and posturing and pride. A trade of identity. Eternal and present tense at the same exact time. Solid. Trustworthy.
Hope springs eternal.
This is a trade available to you every minute of every day. Stop right now and mark this day with it. Switch out your old tired handicap for a fresh bounce and rhythm. No more complaining. Count it all joy.
Invite Him to lead you into conversations today, through conflicts, out of heartache. Invite His timing, His direction, His peace. He will be your best friend. He will be your family. He will answer when you call. He listens to every syllable when you pray.
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things which you do not know.” Jer 33:3
Jesus came, Jesus comes, and He also asks you to come. If you are weary, heavy and burdened, unsure of the next step. Come to the table that He has set. A feast in the presence of enemies: Fear, shame, anxiety, confusion.
“Listen, I received a command to bless; God has blessed, and I cannot reverse it! No misfortune is in his plan for Jacob; no trouble is in store for Israel. For the Lord their God is with them; he has been proclaimed their king. God brought them out of Egypt; for them he is as strong as a wild ox. No curse can touch Jacob; no magic has any power against Israel. For now it will be said of Jacob, ‘What wonders God has done for Israel!’ ”
Come to this table. A table of wonder, of blessing. Walk according to what Heaven says. You have been grafted into shalom, into the Israel vine. Walk according to blessing, not cursing. Work with God, go with the grain of what He is building in your heart. Know what Heaven says about you. Memorize it, ingest it. Agree with Heaven. Rest your hope in it. That is your true home.
His presence is still here, even in sorrow, dismay, loneliness, or turmoil. There is a song awaiting sound in your darkness. Morning Himself waits to dawn. The Lord is your Shepherd, you want for nothing. Green pastures and still waters. Your cup overflows.
To come is to ask for the trade. To come is to believe you are blessed and to live according to that. It is to feast upon a goodness that rises above circumstance, opinion, failure. To hear that you are loved by Love, and to believe Him. To allow peace to be your bodyguard.
Resist the enemy and he will flee. Resist lies and know that the power of the Holy Spirit lives in you and trumps the power of any curse.
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” Rev 3:20
Invite Him in. Trade clothes. Feast. You are blessed.
